From SeafoodNews, 18 January - Despite opposition from some producers and analysts, the Russian government will consider raising import tariffs on certain fish for the domestic market, but will not increase them significantly to avoid market volatility.
The Russian government will continue to keep tariffs on imported fish at a low level, avoiding the use of funds from the budget to subsidise transport and ensure stable supplies for the domestic market.
In December last year, the Russian Fisheries Union had proposed to abolish or reduce import tariffs on certain fish, and from January to November last year, Russia's fish imports amounted to about 547,000 tonnes, an increase of 10 per cent over the same period last year.
