In 2023, Vietnam exported 2.245 million tonnes of meat and meat products with an export value of more than US$110 million, a year-on-year increase of 19 per cent and 30.4 per cent in export volume and value, respectively, according to the Department of imports and Exports, citing the total number of Customs, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported. Notably, Vietnamese meat products have been exported to 28 markets in the world, mainly to Hong Kong, China, Belgium, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Cambodia, France and the US.
In particular, Hong Kong, China continues to be Vietnam's largest import market for meat and meat products, with export volume and value of 963,000 tonnes and US$60.07 million respectively, up 25.3 per cent and 41 per cent year-on-year, accounting for 54.44 per cent and 54.44 per cent of Vietnam's export volume and total export value of meat and meat products respectively. Vietnam mainly exports whole frozen suckling pigs and frozen pigs to Hong Kong.
The Department of import and Export also said that in 2023, Vietnam's foreign exports of meat and meat products will mainly consist of fresh pork, frozen pork (mainly whole suckling pigs and regular pigs), livestock and poultry meat and livestock and poultry by-products, pork and beef. Among them, pork exports were the largest, amounting to 10,700 tonnes, with export earnings of US$63.35 million, an increase of 2.7 per cent and 24.7 per cent year-on-year in export volume and export value respectively. Pork is mainly to markets such as Hong Kong, China, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia and Singapore.
In 2023, exports of poultry meat and poultry by-products surged, reaching 477,000 tonnes and US$12.04 million, with year-on-year growth of 136.1 per cent and 214 per cent in export volume and value respectively, mainly to markets such as China, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea and Hong Kong, China.
