On April 25, 2024, the Indonesian Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued Announcement No. 6 of 2024 to revise the regulation on labeling of processed food (i.e. Regulation No. 31 of 2018). The main elements of the revision include:

(1) Add the requirement that the label of pre-packaged drinking water must be labeled with the statement “should be stored in a clean and cool place, away from direct sunlight and exposure to strong and irritating odors”;

(2) Provide that if the packaging material of prepackaged drinking water is polycarbonate plastic, the warning statement “If the product is not properly stored, the bottle may release bisphenol A (BPA) into the water” shall be marked on the label of the product.

The amendment is effective from the date of publication in the Official Gazette for a transitional period of four years.
