According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, during the recent meeting with the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), the two sides agreed to complete the signing of the phytosanitary requirements protocol for the export of fresh coconuts and frozen durians from Vietnam to China as soon as possible. The Vietnamese coconut industry believes that the signing of the protocol to officially export coconuts to China will help the export of the product to exceed the $1 billion (about 7.25 billion yuan) mark.

Tre Van Duc, chairman of Ben Tre Coconut Investment Co., LTD., said China would need 2.6 billion fresh coconuts and 1.5 billion for processing every year, while domestically produced coconuts would meet only 10 percent of demand.

Duc said the company had long wanted to enter the Chinese market, but because China and Vietnam did not sign an agreement, although the company has long achieved exports to Europe, the United States, the Middle East and other markets, but still can not export to China. Vietnam ranks seventh in the world in coconut production, and due to its geographical location close to China, coconut exports to China will also make a breakthrough. At present, some partners in China have begun to contact, understand and visit the company's factories and products.
