According to Vietnamese media reports, the representative of the Vietnam Fruits and Vegetables Association revealed that under the promotion of all parties, the protocol of Vietnam's frozen durian official export to China will be officially announced in the near future.
China imports about $1 billion of frozen durian annually, and if Vietnam's frozen durian can be exported to China through normal trade channels and occupy about 30% of the market share, it will reach $300-500 million, accounting for about 10% of Vietnam's total durian exports this year.
Vietnam has the geographical advantage of being able to harvest durians all year round, and Vietnamese durians are currently active in both the domestic and export markets in Vietnam. At the same time, Vietnamese durian needs to pay attention to production and quality issues, which is also the primary issue for Vietnamese durian to gain a foothold in the market.
According to the Vietnam Agriculture and Planting Bureau, durian is currently the most profitable fruit and vegetable export. Driving many farmers to grow durian, leading to reduced production of other crops such as coffee and pepper, and thus higher sales prices.
