Chilean fruit exports hit record in the first half of the year, with China the biggest buyer of cherries

Chile's export Promotion Agency (ProChile) recently released a report showing that in the first half of 2024, Chile's fresh fruit exports exceeded 7 billion US dollars, a record high. In addition, China is the largest buyer of cherries and a major buyer of peaches and nectarines.

 

According to the official website of the General Administration of Export Promotion of Chile, in the first half of the year, Chile's cherry exports exceeded 1.961 billion US dollars, an increase of more than 26%. In the 2023/24 season (November 2023 to February 2024), Chilean cherry exports exceeded $2.2 billion, mainly to China.

 

In addition, blueberry exports reached $403 million, close to the all-time peak set in 2021 and up 21.4 percent year over year. The main export market was the United States, with exports of $172 million, up 6.5 percent year-on-year, followed by Germany ($37 million) and the United Kingdom ($34 million).

 

In the first half of the year, the export volume of prune reached 308 million US dollars, a record high, an increase of more than 40%. Peach and nectarine exports reached $164 million, up 25 percent year-on-year, mainly to China, the United States and Mexico. Exports of kiwifruit ($139 million) and grapes ($931 million) also increased significantly, with year-on-year increases of nearly 13% and 17%, respectively.
