China Food Inspection Report in the First Quarter of 2018

 

On April 26, 2018, the State Administration for Market Regulation issued an announcement on the analysis of sampling inspections for food safety supervision in the first quarter of 2018.

 

In the first quarter of 2018, a total of 432,709 batches of food sample inspection results were completed and announced nationwide. From the report, 421,558 batches of samples were tested to be qualified, 11,151 batches of of samples were tested to be unqualified, and the overall sample qualification rate was 97.4%, which was basically the same as in the same period of 2017.

The main issues from the sample inspection:

  • 1. 30% of the unqualified sample inspections fails for using food additives out of the permitted range of use and limit amount. The amount of unqualified sample is 0.1% lower than the same period of last year.
  • 2. 25.3% of the unqualified sample inspections fail for the microbial contamination in food, which is 1.3% lower than the same period of last year.
  • 3. The problem of unqualified residues of pesticides and veterinary drugs in food accounts for 21.6% of the total number of unqualified sample inspections, which is 6.6% higher than the same period of last year.
  • 4. 10.1% of the unqualified total number of unqualified food quality indicators failed to meet the standard, 3.9 % lower than the same period of last year.
  • 5. the problem of heavy metals and other elements in food accounted for 3.6% of the total number of unqualified sample inspection,which is 0.6% higher than the same period last year.
  • 6. non-edible substances detected in food accounted for 1.4% of the total number of unqualified sample inspection,which is 0.2% lower than the same period last year.
  • 7. the problem of bio-toxin contamination in food accounts for 1.3% of the unqualified total, which is 1.0 % higher than the same period of last year.
