Shrimp export from Ecuador extremely dropped

From Intrafish August 11 news, Ecuadorian Foreign Relations, said China has lifted the Ecuadorian main export business Santa Priscila company's shrimp products import ban.

Prior to this, the relevant departments of China and Ecuador were holding talks almost daily. China will also review the cases of two other Ecuadorian shrimp producers, Empacreci and EdPacif, in the next few days. Ecuador hopes that the two companies can pass the review smoothly.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the shrimp industry in Ecuador has recently suffered several blows. In July, due to the discovery of the COVID-19 virus on the packaging again, China stopped the supply trade of the three largest shrimp exporters in Ecuador. In the past few months, Ecuador’s shrimp exports to China have dropped significantly. They expect that due to China’s restrictions, the drop in July will be even greater.

The National Aquaculture Chamber of Ecuador (CNA) issued a statement saying that due to the market crisis and reduced demand, the production and exports of the shrimp industry have been severely contracted.

CAN said that in May this year, Ecuador exported 159 million pounds of shrimp, of which 116 million pounds were exported to China. In June of this year, the export volume dropped to 122 million pounds, of which 59 million pounds were exported to China. CNA now predicts that its shrimp exports in July will not reach 80 million pounds, and its exports to China are almost "zero".
