China and Russia hold emergency video negotiations on the detection of COVID-19 in the packaging of fish exported from Russia to China

Foodmate News: The official website of the Russian Federation Veterinary Plant Bureau reported on September 30: The Bureau and the General Administration of Customs of China held video negotiations on the detection of COVID-19 in the packages of fish exported from Russia to China.

The official website stated that because its product packaging was found to contain the COVID-19, China required the termination of the qualifications of two Russian aquatic products to export to China and the destruction of contaminated products in accordance with Chinese legislative requirements. Suppliers of products exported to China were required to conduct independent research on new crown virus testing.

The Russian side stated that it has investigated the incident and emphasized that it has always strictly followed the temporary requirements on "COVID-19 and food safety" formulated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Health Organization that have been sent to China.

In addition, the Russian side has asked the General Administration of Customs of China to conduct tests on relevant fish products to confirm whether the products contain the COVID-19. The Chinese side stated that the relevant testing work has been carried out with the authorities of Shandong Province where Qingdao Port is located. The Russian Veterinary Plant Bureau needs to communicate with each other through diplomatic channels. Contact the Shandong Provincial Government.

According to the Russian media ГАЗЕТА.ru, the chairman of the All-Russian Fisheries Industry Association stated that currently 4 Russian companies have been restricted from exporting aquatic products to China.
