The difference of function claims in US and EU

On December 18th, China Nutrition and Health Food Association released the difference of the function claims in United States and the European Union.

The definition of health claims in US and EU are different. In the United States, the definition of a health claim is: a claim that explicitly or implicitly expresses the relationship between any substance and a disease or health problem. In contrast, EU legislation excludes all claims directly related to disease. Regulation 1924/2006/EC established the rules for the use of claims in all EU member states and defined health claims as: any claim that claims, implies or implies a certain food category, food or its ingredients and health.

Therefore, there are terminology issues between EU and US. The EU's health claims correspond to the US structure/function claims. The EU’s claims of reduced disease risk (factors) correspond to the US health claim of reduced disease risk. The EU nutrition claims correspond to the US nutrition claims.

The association also conducted an in-depth study and compared the claims of dietary supplements in the European Union and the United States, and interpreted their classification, laws, and descriptions.
