The EU intends to revise the official import control requirements for composite foods

On January 5, 2021, the European Union issued Consultation document SANTE/7126/2020 proposing to revise the official import control requirements for composite foods (that is, foods that contain both plant-derived ingredients and processed animal-derived ingredients). The main contents of the amendment include: composite foods (including cream desserts, pasta, baked goods, etc.) that do not contain processed meat and listed in the annex of the consultation document with stable shelf life, are exempt from official control conditions that need to be met at border control points when imported; the competent authority of the European Union shall, on the basis of risk assessment, regularly carry out official control on the composite products that are exempt from official control at border control points and have stable shelf life as described in Article 1, and specify specific place of implementation. The regulation is planned to be implemented on April 21, 2021, and the feedback period will end on February 2, 2021.
