South Korea releases draft for comments on partial revisions of the "Regulations on the Safety Review of Genetically Modified Foods, etc."


On March 11, the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Announcement No. 2021-110, intending to amend part of the "Regulations on the Safety Review of Genetically Modified Foods, etc.", the main contents of which are as follows:

1. Clearly stipulate the safety review object of genetically modified food: genetically modified food can be made from genetically modified agricultural, livestock and aquatic products through various forms of production and processing. It is clearly specified that non-individual processed products are also subject of review.

2. Newly set the legal basis for rejection in the case of security review using inappropriate methods, etc.

3. Clearly specify the scope of submission of toxicity data.

4. Newly set the document format of the application form for the change of the items listed in the notification form of the research results for the safety review of the next-generation mating species.

The time for the above comments to be solicited is until May 10, 2020.
