South Korea releases draft for comments on some revisions of the Food Additives Code
On March 25, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of South Korea issued Announcement No. 2021-128, intending to amend part of the "Food Additives Code". The main contents are as follows:
1. In order to unify the management of natural fragrances and synthetic fragrances, newly set fragrance categories; delete 4 duplicated natural fragrance origin substances, add 2 internationally used natural fragrance origin substances, and modify the common names of 3 natural fragrance origin substances; The aliases of 7 synthetic fragrances have been modified, and 58 synthetic fragrances have been designated.
2. Increase the standards for the use of 16 kinds of colorants such as food coloring green No. 3 in health functional foods.
3. Provide the name, English name, scientific name, INS number and other information of 4 kinds of products including fatty acid glycerides in the form of a table.
4. Clearly stipulate the composition specification test method for two kinds of additives such as glycerin; modify the freezing point determination method in the general test method.
The above comments will be collected until May 24, 2021.
