Canada approves the extension of the use of certain food additives to human milk fortifiers
On April 14, 2021, Health Canada issued document NOM/ADM-0164, amending the list of allowed emulsifiers , gelling agents, stabilizers and thickeners, as well as the list of allowed PH regulators, acid reaction modifiers and water correctors. Health Canada has approved the expansion of the use of certain food additives to human milk fortifiers.
Approved food additives include carrageenan, gellan gum, lecithin, monoglycerides, potassium citrate, potassium hydroxide and sodium citrate.
This revision will take effect from April 14, 2021.
