South Korea imports all kimchi in Q1 of 2021 from China

 
On April 21, 2021, according to the Korean Customs Service data, South Korea imported 67,940 tons of kimchi in the first quarter, six times the total kimchi exported by South Korea, and all these imported kimchi came from China.

The export value of Korean kimchi in the first quarter of this year was 46.57 million U.S. dollars, breaking a single-season export record. The import value was 38.5 million U.S. dollars, realizing a surplus of 8.068 million U.S. dollars in the kimchi trade balance. According to the import and export volume of kimchi, the export volume of Korean kimchi in the first quarter was 11,181 tons, an increase of 54.3% year-on-year; the import volume of kimchi was 67,940 tons, an increase of 7.4% year-on-year, of which all imported kimchi came from China.
