The European Union Revises Management Regulations of Imported Casing
On May 20, 2021, the European Union issued (EU) Commission Regulation No. 2021/800 to amend the "Regulations on the Monitoring and Management of imported Animal-derived Foods" concerning the import management requirements for casings produced in third countries. The specific content is:
1. When a third country is required to import casing raw materials from other third countries for the production of casing products exported to the EU, a supplementary statement should be made: that is, the competent authority of the exporting country has adopted reliable procedures and measures to ensure that the raw materials purchased by the country come from countries and enterprises approved by the EU;
2. It is stipulated that third countries can purchase raw materials from other third countries approved by the EU and allowed to export meat and meat products, stomach, bladder, and intestines to the EU for the production of casings for export to the EU;
3. It is stipulated that only third countries listed in the Annex of Regulations (EU) 2021/404, (EU) 2021/405, 2011/163/EU are allowed to export casings from the EU, and in addition, according to (EU) No. 2019/625 Regulations, export companies from third countries should be registered in the EU.
The regulations will come into effect on the date of issuance.
