Thai government promotes halal food exports
According to the report of Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, Thai halal food exports are expected to increase by 3% this year to 122.1 billion baht.
DITP pointed out that consumers' demand for healthy food is becoming more and more prosperous during the epidemic. Thailand is launching a series of promotion plans such as "Thai Safety" to stabilize Thailand's status as a major food producer. At present, Thailand’s main halal exports include chicken, shrimp, canned tuna, fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, etc. The export destinations include Islamic countries, China, the United States, and the European Union. The current global halal food market is about 1.2 trillion US dollars. There are about 5,000 certified companies and 160,000 certified products in Thailand. The Thai government hopes to become the 13th largest source of imports for Islamic countries this year.
