The Indian Association advises exporters to avoid the Chinese market
In the past one or two months, the inner walls of Indian seafood containers and the inner and outer packaging of the products have successively detected positive for the SARS-Cov-2. The General Administration of Customs has suspended import declarations in accordance with regulations. Up to now, as many as 31 Indian companies have suspended declarations and the suspension period ranges from 1-9 weeks.
According to Indian media, China is India’s second largest shrimp export market, accounting for 46.44% of the export share. There are currently about 1,000-1,200 Indian white shrimp containers stranded in Chinese ports, with an average of 16 tons of frozen shrimp produced per container, with a total value of more than 12 billion Indian rupees (160 million US dollars).
Elias Sait, secretary general of the Seafood Export Association of India (SEAI), told that as far as he knows, more than 70 Indian exporters have been suspended from reporting. In view of this, SEAI will advise Indian seafood exporters to suspend exports to China.
