East African Community plans to formulate 3 meat food standards
On August 15, 2021, Kenya, one of the member states of the East African Community (EAC), released three draft meat food East African standards through the official website of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS). The feedback period is until October 15, 2021. EAC is a regional international organization composed of six East African countries: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and South Sudan. The three standards are:
(1) "Specifications for dried meat" (DEAS1063: 2021), the main content includes related definitions, product requirements and food safety standard limits, sampling and test methods;
(2) "Specifications for Meat Grades and Meat Pieces Part 2: Sheep" (DEAS84-2: 2021), the main content stipulates the grading method, grade, quality requirements, safety requirements of lamb and mutton, as well as lamb and lamb for human consumption. Sampling and test methods of mutton carcass and meat;
(3) "Specifications for Meat Grades and Meat Pieces Part 3: Pork" (DEAS84-3: 2021), which mainly stipulates the pork grades, quality requirements, safety requirements and sampling and testing of pork carcasses and meat pieces for human consumption.
