South Korea releases amendments to the "Special Law on Imported Food Safety Management"
On September 17, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of South Korea issued Announcement No. 2021-448, intending to amend part of the "Special Law on imported Food Safety Management", the main contents of which are as follows:
importers of processed animal products that check the sanitation management status of overseas factories can also be registered as excellent importers.
In order to strengthen the safety management of overseas food purchased by consumers directly from abroad, the government will formulate relevant basis to designate or remove the management of ingredients and raw materials that need to be banned from import.
Newly established administrative sanctions for refusal of entry and exit, recycling, inspection and violation of recycling orders, refusal, obstruction, avoidance of seizure, recycling, and abandonment, to prevent the harm caused by imported food and maintain administrative order in the circulation stage.
