South Korea Solicite Comments on Partial Modifications of the "Imported Food Safety Management Special Law Implementation Rules"

 
On November 26, the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Announcement No. 2021-558, intending to amend part of the "imported Food Safety Management Special Act Implementation Rules", the main contents of which are as follows:

1. When requiring overseas factories to rectify, it is stipulated that violations should be notified in the form of documents, and other necessary details shall be formulated and announced by the MFDS Minister.

2. When harmful substances are detected in imported and exported foods in Korea and abroad, the business operator can be ordered to go to the supervisory authority for inspection within the time limit (20 days).

3. In order to prevent foods purchased directly overseas from causing harm to the health of the people, the product name, production country, and production company information of related products will be disclosed on the MFDS webpage.

4. Formulate regulations on the application of administrative penalties corresponding to the number of violations in the event of repeated violations.

The deadline for feedback is until January 5, 2022.
