1.What is prepackaged food?
A
Foods pre-quantified packaged or prepared in packaging materials and containers, including pre-quantified packaging and pre-quantified food products in packaging materials and containers and having uniform quality or volume identification within a quantitative limit.

2. Why imported prepackaged food must have Chinese label?
A
According to the relevant provisions of Article 97 of the Food Safety Law and Article 30 of the Measures for the Administration of imported and Exported Food Safety, imported prepackaged food must have Chinese labels.

Labels and instructions shall comply with the provisions of this Law and other relevant laws and administrative regulations in my country and the requirements of national food safety standards, and shall indicate the origin of the food and the name, address and contact information of domestic agents. Prepackaged food that does not have Chinese labels, Chinese instructions, or labels and instructions that do not meet the above requirements, shall not be imported.

3. What are the basic requirements of Chinese labels for imported prepackaged foods?
A
1). It shall comply with the provisions of laws and regulations, and comply with the provisions of corresponding food safety standards;

2). It should be clear, eye-catching and durable, and it should be easy for consumers to identify and read when purchasing;

3). It should be easy to understand and have scientific basis, and should not label feudal superstition, pornography, and content that degrades other foods or violates the common sense of nutritional science;

4). It should be true and accurate, and should not introduce food in false, exaggerated, misleading or deceptive words and graphics, and should not mislead consumers by using font size or color difference;

5). It should not directly or with suggestive language, graphics or symbols misleading consumers to confuse the purchased food or a certain nature of the food with another product;

6). Contents that have the effect of preventing or treating diseases shall not be marked or implied, and non-health food shall not expressly or imply that it has the effect of health care;

7). It should not be separated from food or its packaging (container); 

8). Standard Chinese characters (except trademarks) should be used. All kinds of artistic characters with decorative effect should be written correctly and easy to identify;

9). When the maximum surface area of pre-packaged food packaging or packaging container is greater than 35 cm2, the height of the text, symbols and numbers of the mandatory content shall not be less than 1.8mm.

4. What elements should be marked on the imported food Chinese labels?
A
The label should indicate the following elements:

1). Name, specification, net weight, production date;

2). Ingredients or ingredient list;

3). The name, address and contact information of the importer, agent or distributor (the manufacturer may not be marked);

4). Shelf life;

5). Storage conditions;

6). The general name of the food additive used in the national standard;

7). The country name or region name of the country of origin (such as Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan are marked as the country of origin);

8). For prepackaged food directly provided to consumers, nutrition labels shall also be displayed in accordance with the provisions of the General Rules for Nutritional Labeling of Prepackaged Foods in National Food Safety Standards (GB 28050-2011) (except for foods exempted from labeling);

9). Other matters that should be indicated by laws, regulations or food safety standards.
