Kenya plans to develop two food standards

 On 22 April 2022, the Kenya Standards Agency issued two food standard drafts, namely: 

 

(1) Banana Crisp Standard (DKS1094-:2022), mainly including terms and definitions, raw material requirements, regulations on the use of raw and auxiliary materials (salt and spices allowed), quality and sensory value (such as water content <4.7%,  fat content <35%, etc.), quality and hygiene requirements (e. coli, staphylococcus aureus and salmonella shall not be detected, total number of yeast and mold < 1,000 cfu/g, etc.), packaging and labeling requirements, etc.; 

 

(2) Standard for Edible Potato Starch (DKS2964:2022), mainly including terms and definitions, quality and sensory requirements (such as pH value 5-7, water content <12%, chloride content <0.6%, etc.), quality and hygiene requirements (such as e. coli, salmonella should not be detected, staphylococcus aureus <10 cfu/g,  yeast and mold count <1,000 cfu/g, etc.), packaging and labeling regulations, sampling and inspection methods, etc. 

 

The feedback period for the above two draft standards ends on June 22, 2022.
