(People's Daily) Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development set the area of coffee replanting and grafting to reach 107,000 hectares by 2025, of which 75,000 hectares are replanted and 32,000 hectares are grafted.
Coffee kernel yields in coffee replanted and grafted area during the stable operation phase shall reach 3.5 t/ha. Revenue per hectare of coffee replanted and grafted area is 0.5-1 times higher than before.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, 91,000 hectares of coffee will be replanted and 27,000 hectares of coffee will be grafted in the five provinces of the west plateau region by 2025.
Lam Dong is the largest with 36,000 ha, followed by Dac Lac (24,000 ha), Dak Nong(18,000 ha), Gia Lai(11,000 ha) and Kon Tum(2,000 ha).
The other coffee-growing provinces of Son La, Dien Bien, Quang Tri, Binh Phuc, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau have planted an area of 16,000 ha, of which 11,000 ha have been replanted and 5,000 ha have been grafted.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will research and select new coffee varieties that are highly productive, of high quality, resistant to pests and diseases, adaptable to climate change and suitable for each ecological region.
The agriculture department has established a qualified coffee seed garden system in various places to meet the needs of coffee replanting and grafting. At the same time, strengthen the implementation of national management measures on coffee varieties in accordance with laws and regulations, so that coffee growers can use reasonable prices and standard varieties.
Coffee replantation assistance policies include agricultural and rural development credit services; Support the development of seed production to serve the adjustment of agricultural structure; Reducing agricultural losses; Encouraging cooperation in the production and marketing of agricultural products; Encourage organic farming; Encouraging business investment in agriculture and rural areas; Apply science and technology to production.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will work closely with the World Bank and other international organizations to help mobilize low-interest ODA funds for replanting and grafting coffee and to strengthen public-private partnerships in coffee cultivation, processing and marketing.
