The main seafood imported to Korea in April were frozen pollock, frozen herring, frozen mackerel, frozen salmon and frozen monkfish.
The import trend for the first four months of this year shows a sharp increase in imports of Atlantic salmon as a substitute for pink salmon due to a global supply shortage. The Atlantic salmon are mainly imported from Russia.
South Korea's imports of frozen cod jumped from 51,814 tonnes in the first four months of 2021 to 140,670 tonnes in the same period this year, increased by 171% as the biggest import increase on record.
