South Korea has issued a partial revision to the Alimentary Codex, setting new specifications and standards for nutritious formula foods for the elderly


The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of Korea issued Notice No. 2022-48 on June 30 to amend part of the Alimentary Codex. The main contents are as follows:  
   
1. Set new specifications and standards for nutritious formula food for the elderly.  
   
2. Set new nutritional formula food, food types and standards for production and processing of cookbook food for cancer patients.  
   
3. Restrict and delete the use of certain food raw materials: delete 4 food raw materials such as red Polygonum cuspidatum and Sisymbrium altissimum from the food raw materials list, and changed 5 food raw materials such as fenugreek and licorice into food raw materials of restricted use.
   
4. Modify residue limits for fumonisins in maize used for starch production or starch sugar production.  
   
5. Modify the specifications of frozen foods to be served after heating.  

6. Modify the specifications of pathogenic bacteria for instant food: including staphylococcus aureus, vibrio parahaemolyticus and clostridium perfringens.  
   
7. Revise the list of food raw materials.  
   
8. New residue limits for ketoprofen in foods.  
   
9. Revise and set the residue limits of animal products and aquatic products.  
   
10. Modification of general test methods and other provisions.
