According to a new report by the Ministry of Agriculture's policy research department (ODEPA), Chile's fresh fruit exports rose by 10.8 million tonnes in the first half of 2022, up 10% year on year, with exports of $36.57 billion (FOB price, below the same), up 9.6% year on year.
Cherries are the biggest exported fruit of Chile in the first 5 months
In terms of exports, the Cherries ranked Chile's largest exported fruit, with a total export of 28.5 million tonnes, up 7.20% year on year, and export amount reached $15.71 billion, up 32.2% year on year, with 90 % amount shipped to the Chinese market, according to the portal.com report.
Fresh grapes came in second place, with a total export of 58.76 million tonnes, up 15.40% year on year, export amount reached $891 million, down 0.1% year-on-year, mainly to the United States (48%) and China (14.3%).
The blackberry came in third place, with a total export of 90,000 tons, down 6% year-on-year, export amount reached$415 million , down 14.40% year on year, mainly to the United States (47.6%) and the Netherlands (22%).
The three fruits above plus prune, the fourth largest export fruit in Chile, accounted for 84.9% of fresh fruit exports in the first five months of Chile.
Frozen fruit is Chile's main export processing fruit
The report also showed that from January to may, Chile's processed fruit products export reached 231, 000 tons, down 10.6%year-on-year, and export amount reached $588 million, up 6.70% year on year.
In the first five months, processed fruit products accounted for the first five places in Chile's exports were: frozen fruit (45.7%), preserved fruit (20.3%), dehydrated fruit (17.9%), juice (11.2%) and fruit oil (4.9%).
In addition, compared with the same period last year, only fruit juice exports amount declined (29% down) in Chile's processed fruit products, and exports of other products grew respectivily, with fruit oil growing most notably ( 115% up).
Specifically, Chile's frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries, frozen raspberries and frozen blackberry exports totaled $90 million, $69 million, $44.5 million and $33m, mainly shipped to the United States, Canada and Australia. Exports of canned peaches and canned apples were $47 million and $17.8 million, mainly to Mexico and the United States. The exports of dehydrated prunes and raisins totaled $50 million and $34.7 million respectively. Dried prunes are shipped to the United States and eastern Europe, and raisins are mainly shipped to the United States and China. The exports of grape juice and apple juice amounted to $21.8 million and $19 million, mainly to the United States and Japan. Olive oil exports to Brazil and the United States at $24.8 million.
Tomatoes are Chile's main exporting vegetables
On the other hand, Chile's vegetable exports from January to May were $192 million, down 5.4 % year-on-year.
In terms of export amount, tomatoes were Chile's main export vegetable during the period, accounting for 31.4% of total vegetable export amount and 43.2% of total vegetable export volume. Meanwhile, export volume of tomatoes fell 6 % year on year, but export amount up 17.9 % year on year to $60.2 million.
Garlic ranked second place, accounting for 12.7% of total vegetable export amount and 10.9% of total vegetable export volume, mainly to Mexico.
