TKY Farm, a durian plantation and export company based in Cambodia's Preah Vihear province, shipped more than 120 tons of durian to the Chinese market via Thailand, according to the Phnom Penh Post.
TKY Farm, in partnership with a Chinese company, will export durians at prices similar to those of Kampot and Kampong Cham and plans to expand exports to 500 tonnes by 2023, according to the news.
TKY Farm is one of the largest durian producers in Preah Vihear province. The chief executive officer Yi Sinath said the company, which has been growing durians for eight years, has invested in more than 200 hectares of durian plants in Preah Vihear province, with a total of 16,000 trees. The plantation's durian production has been steadily increasing every year, with 4,000 harvestable durian trees yielding more than 300 tonnes this year and another 2,000 trees expected to start bearing fruit next year.
At present, only bananas and mangoes are allowed by Chinese customs. The entry process of Longan is in the final stage, and the first batch of Pailin Longan is expected to be exported to China in September 2022. Due to the limited supply of fruit in Cambodia, the export negotiations to China have been obstructed. At present, The Durian in Cambodia has not entered the negotiation stage of plant quarantine requirements.
