Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision will ban the import of seeds from several foreign nurseries due to some dangerous virus

Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision will ban imports of potatoes, soybeans, corn, tomatoes, peppers, carrots and flower seeds from several foreign nurseries starting August 15 over fears of dangerous virus.
 
"Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision will ban the supply of seeds from nurseries in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Canada," the agency said. The ban, which took effect on August 15, was implemented under the seventh edition of the International Plant Protection and Quarantine Convention.
 
The Agency indicated that the restrictions were imposed because of the subjects’ non-compliance of the quarantine standards of Russia and members of the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as the failure of the national phytosanitary and protection authorities of Germany, France, Netherlands and Canada to take urgent measures to ensure the quarantine safety of these products.

Specifically, importation of seeds of tomatoes, peppers, carrots and floral crops from Satimex Quedlinburg GmbH(Germany), will be prohibited due to potato spindle tuber virus, zebra chip disease and the perngent weed Acroptilon repens.
 
In addition, corn seed imports from nurseries in Limagrain Europe(France), will be banned because of leaf spot disease; importation of tomato Seeds from Axia Vegetable Seeds (Netherlands) has been banned due to the detection of pepino mosaic virus In addition, the import of soybean seeds from Semences Prograin Nursery(Canada) will be banned due to the detection of soybean purple spot bacteria.
 
Russia's Ministry of Agriculture announced last week that it was preparing a plan to speed up agricultural production with domestically selected seeds.
