On 30 August 2022, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry issued a notice for fresh, frozen, dried and powdered giant taro (Alocasiamacrorrhiza) for human consumption. The use of giant taro (Alocasiamacrorrhiza) is prohibited under Schedule 23 of the Australian and New Zealand Food Standards Code. Under the Australian and New Zealand Food Standards Code, these plants, plant products and their derivatives cannot be imported for sale as food in any form. The change will affect importers of fresh, frozen, dried and powdered giant taro from all countries. The requirement is effective from August 30, 2022.
