According to the Official Journal of the European Union, on 9 September 2022, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) 2022/1490, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council, expressed lemon essential oil, residual fraction of expressed lemon oil distilled, distilled lemon essential oil (volatile fraction) and distilled lime essential oil as feed additives.

Under the conditions specified in the Annex, this additive is authorized as an animal additive under the category "sensory additives" and the functional group "flavoring compounds". The expiration date of the license is September 29, 2032. These Regulations shall take effect on the 20th day as of the date of promulgation.
