In China, the marketing of infant formula requires formula registration, and the number of registrations is limited, which significantly improves the entry threshold of the industry.In February 2021, the new national standard for infant formula was released, and the infant formula industry ushered in the second round of formula registration peak.

As of October 10, 2022, 1374 formulas of 454 series in 175 factories from 126 companies have been registered. Among them, there are 121 domestic factories, accounting for 69% of all registered factories; 54 overseas factories, accounting for 31%. The registered number of domestic factories is twice the number of overseas factories

In 1374 registered formulas of infant formula,1035 domestic formulas, accounting for 75% of all formulas; 339 overseas formulas, accounting for 25% of all formulas.The registered number of domestic formulas accounts for a high proportion, which is 3 times the number of overseas formulas.

In 1374 registered formulas of infant formula,1080 are milk formula, accounting for 79% of the total formula. Among them, there are 774 domestic milk formula. 294 are goat milk formula, accounting for 21% of the total formula. There are 261 domestic goat milk formula. At present, the registered milk formula is nearly 4 times the number of goat milk formula.

At present, there are 79 formulas with new national standards. Among them, the number of domestic formulas with new national standards is 69, accounting for 87% of the total formula;The number of overseas formulas with new national standards is 10, accounting for 13% of the total formula. At present, the number of domestic formulas that have been awarded the new national standard is nearly 7 times the number of overseas ones. There are 60 milk formula and 9 goat milk formula at domestic. The number of milk formula is nearly 7 times that of goat milk formula.It mainly involves Yili, FIRMUS, Junlebao, Meadjohnson, Nestlé, Beingmate, Banner Dairy, Eurbest and WISSUN.
