New Zealand to revise aquatic product processing health standards

On 30 November 2022, the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) of New Zealand issued Notice No. 54502 to amend the Animal Products Notice - Health Standards for Processing of Aquatic Products. The main contents of the revision are:

(1) Supplement and improve or add terms and definitions such as corrective measures and transportation units;

(2) Supplement the mandatory hygiene control requirements for aquatic product processing enterprises, including further strict hygiene requirements for personnel and increasing the frequency of disinfection and cleaning facilities and equipment;

(3) New fishing and processing vessels must be equipped with temporary storage or handover areas with temperature control equipment, drainage facilities and other provisions;

(4) Risk management system and self-monitoring requirements of newly added aquatic product processing enterprises.

 

 The standard also applies to manufacturers of aquatic products for export, and the feedback period for the revision ends Feb. 17, 2023.
