Brazil published Regulations on Nomenclature of Foods of Animal Origin

On January 30, 2023, the Brazilian Government Gazette issued “SDA Decree No. 744”, the “Regulations on Nomenclature of Foods of Animal Origin”. The regulation applies to the official denomination of foods of animal origin derived from breeds of animals that are permitted to be slaughtered and that have not been further processed.

 

The main content includes definitions and terminology, key points of naming various animal-derived foods (for example, after the official name of the product, the marketing name can be added to provide more product information, cut pork products should indicate whether it contains skin, and the carcass category should be indicated after the official name (such as chicken wings, chicken (excluding internal organs), products named "processed meat" can only be used exclusively for the manufacture of cooked or sterilized heat-treated meat products, etc.). This decree will be effective since March 1, 2023.
