On 8 March 2023, the Australian Biosafety import Conditions (BICON) website published the latest biosafety conditions and requirements for imported noodles, including instant noodles, in Australia. Compared to the previous revision, noodles or instant noodles containing 10% or less egg or milk content were removed. Different inspection modes were adopted and implemented depending on whether the packaging was marketed. As well as the entry of the designated place of inspection and other relevant provisions. The latest import conditions and requirements mainly include:
(1) It is not necessary to apply for an import licence from the Australian Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
(2) The product must be accompanied by commercial invoice, packing list, product description and manufacturer's statement showing that the product contains less than 10% egg or milk content (dry weight), no egg content visible to the naked eye, and the manufacturer's name and address information.
(3) The products must be in clean and new packaging.
(4) The expenses for returning, destroying and disposing of the goods shall be borne by the importer. The above import conditions and requirements will come into force on March 8, 2023.
(Note: Noodle products with 10% or more egg or milk content will be controlled as egg products, dairy products or composite foods)
