Research: China accounted for 69 percent of Russian beef exports in 2023

Russian Agroexport stated to Sputnik News Agency that China accounted for 69% of Russia's beef exports in 2023. According to the source, "China accounted for 59% of Russia's beef exports in 2022, and 69% from January to April 2023."


As of now, only two Russian companies have obtained export licenses to China. In May 2023, another company in Lipetsk was approved to enter the Chinese market. The first containers of Lipetsk beef will be shipped to China in June.


According to the data from the International Trade Center Trade Map (ITC Trade Map), China's total beef imports will exceed US$18 billion in 2022, an increase of 42% compared with 2021, and an increase of 4.7 times compared with 2017. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, China's beef purchases have increased by 50% in the past decade, and this figure will increase by another 10% in 2031.
