The Nicaraguan government announced on August 25 that it had signed a protocol with the Chinese government on beef exports to China, opening the door for Nicaraguan beef to be sold to the Chinese market.
Nicaragua's VOSTV television website reported that recently, a Nicaraguan diplomatic mission in Beijing, China, on behalf of the Nicaraguan Institute for Agricultural Protection and Health (IPSA) and the General Administration of Customs signed the "Nicaraguan beef export to China Inspection and quarantine and veterinary health requirements Protocol." The protocol is considered a key step in the upcoming free trade agreement between the two sides and will provide Nicaraguan producers with access to the world's largest meat market.
The Nicaraguan Government also stressed that the Protocol is a cornerstone for strengthening bilateral trade relations between the two countries.
In July this year, Nicaragua and China announced the substantive completion of the FTA negotiations, and the two sides committed to speed up the completion of technical preparations and domestic approval procedures to enable the FTA to enter into force as soon as possible.
It is worth mentioning that the Early Harvest of the Nicaragua-China Free Trade Agreement signed between Ecuador and China has come into effect in May this year, and China has exempted imports of beef, fish, seafood and some textiles from Nepal.
Nicaragua and China will resume diplomatic relations in December 2021. Bilateral trade reached $760 million last year, according to official figures.
