United States intends to revise the registration and management requirements of acidic canned food and low-acid hot processed canned food

On October 11, 2023, according to the U.S. Federal Register, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued Notice 2023-22461, proposing to revise the registration management requirements for acidic canned foods and low-acid hot processed canned foods.

 

The main contents include: acid canned food, low acid hot processed canned food, high water activity canned food, low acid sterile canned food production enterprises should declare the production process to FDA through electronic or physical means, and FDA will carry out regular reviews to confirm that the production process of related products meet public health requirements; In addition, in the event of a public health emergency, the FDA will identify high-risk product categories based on the declaration information, leading to a timely recall of foods that may endanger consumer health.

 

The notice will be published in the Federal Register on October 12, 2023, and the comment period will be 30 days.
