US is seeking comment on the use of new food additives in some foods

On October 12, 2023, according to the U.S. Federal Register, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued Notice 2023-22613 and 22637 to solicit comments on the use of two new food additives in some foods. Specifically:

 

(1) Added sodium alginate as a stabilizer and thickener used in plant protein products, the maximum added amount of 3%;

 

(2) The addition of vitamin D3 as a nutritional fortification agent is used in powdered solid drinks, and the maximum added amount is 180 international units /360ml (calculated in ready-to-eat state).

 

The notice will be published in the Federal Register on October 13, 2023, and the comment period will be 30 days.
