On 20 October 2023, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) issued Circular IFN14-23 to update the import requirements for bivalve shellfish and their products. Main contents:

(1) From 9 November 2023, imports of bivalve shellfish and their products (excluding heat-sterilised long shelf stable products and dried (excluding semi-dried) products) can only come from countries officially approved by Australia;

(2) Publish a list of countries that are allowed to import, including 12 countries such as China, in addition to stipulating that bivalves and their products originating in parts of Japan and South Korea are prohibited from being imported into Australia;

(3) Countries that intend to export bivalve shellfish and its products to Australia must apply to DAFF by their competent authorities before November 9, 2023 and accept the review, and the Australian authorities will dynamically update the list of allowable import countries after the review is passed.
