On November 9, 2023, China's National Health Commission and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly issued the announcement to add 9 substances including Codonopsis pilosula to the catalog of substances that are Traditionally Considered Both Food and Medicinal Materials.
The announcement is as follows: In accordance with the “Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China” and its implementing Regulations, and the “Provisions on the Management of the Catalogue of Substances that are Traditionally Considered Both Food and Chinese Medicinal Materials”, after safety assessment and pilot production and operation, nine kinds of substances, such as Codonopsis pilosula, Cistanche deserticola, Dendrobium officinale, Panax ginseng, Astragalus membranaceus, Ganoderma lucidum, Cornus officinalis, Gastrodia elata, and Eucommia ulmoides leaves, are included in the catalogue of substances that are traditionally considered both food and chinese medicinal materials.
At the same time, an official interpretation related to the announcement was also released, giving specific instructions on the nine new food and drug substances.
