On 19 January 2024, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea (MFDS) announced plans to increase exports of powdered formula to China.

Starting from February 2023, it will be mandatory that only formula that has undergone on-site inspection by a Chinese representative and has been registered under the new regulations can be exported to China. After negotiation between China and Korea, the MFDS has been allowed to conduct on-site field inspections by its agents so that the formula of Korean exporters can be registered. The registration of five brands from two companies has been completed, allowing for the continued export of formula to China. In 2023, South Korea exported $40.5 million of formula to China, and this is expected to reach $75 million by 2024.
