Recently, Chilean Agriculture Minister Esteban Valenzuela and officials from General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) signed an agreement in Santiago, the capital of Chile, to allow Chile to export lentils to China.

The Chilean website "Simfruit" reported on 18 March that Chilean President Gabriel Boric attended the signing ceremony and stressed that "during his visit to China last year, the two sides (Chile and China) signed an agreement allowing Chile to export peach and apricot kernels to China, making Chile the first country in the world to be allowed to export all of its fruit to China". Chile became the first country in the world to have all its fruits allowed to be exported to China. Chile is a major supplier of temperate fresh fruit to China, including grapes, apples, pears, prunes, carrots, blueberries, kiwis, oranges and peaches."

According to statistics, Chile exported more than 574,000 tonnes of fresh fruit to China during the 2022/23 fruit season, mainly carrion with 364,000 tonnes, or 63%. According to Borich, "Chilean fruit cultivation, harvesting, processing, and exporting are progressing well, thanks to the joint efforts of the public and private sectors, which is fuelling employment, innovation, the integration of new technologies, and the dynamic development of rural territories."

Valenzuela noted that "Chile's capacity for economic growth is mainly in forestry and livestock, especially in the food sector. We will continue to put in the effort."
