On 18 April 2024, the Singapore Food Authority (SFA) issued a recall notice for a product imported from China, Honey Dates, because the allergen sulphur dioxide was detected in the product, which was not declared on the food packaging label.
The name of the recalled product is Honey Dates and its shelf life is until 2 March 2025. The Food Authority of Singapore has instructed the importer, Yan Tai Yit Pte Ltd, to recall the affected products. The recall is still ongoing.
Allergens in food may cause allergic reactions in people who are allergic to them. High levels of sulphur dioxide in food can cause allergic reactions with symptoms such as hives, itching, stomach pain, diarrhoea and vomiting in people who are allergic to sulphites. Under Singapore's food regulations, food products containing ingredients known to cause allergies must be declared on food packaging labels to protect consumers with food allergies. All ingredients in pre-packaged food should also be listed in descending order of weight on the product labels.
Consumers who have purchased the concerned products and are concerned about their health are advised by the Food Authority of Singapore (FAS) not to consume them, and consumers can contact their point of purchase for enquiry.
