EU proposed to amend the provisions on conformity checks of marketing standards for olive oil

On May 31, 2024, the European Commission published on its website Consultation Paper Ares(2024)3930243 on the proposed revision of the olive oil marketing standard on compliance checks, with a deadline of June 28, 2024 for comments. The main points are as follows.

 

1. Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2022/2105, determining fatty acid ethyl esters and waxes in the analytical methods for the characterization of olive oil by means of COI/T.20/Doc.28 Determination of waxes and fatty acid ethyl esters by means of capillary gas chromatography; samples from packages of less than 5L: for individual packages of >750 ml or more, at least one package shall be sampled; for individual packages of <750 ml, at least The minimum number of packages with a total volume of 750ml; the sample must be homogenized before analysis;

 

2. For packages greater than 5 liters, primary samples shall be taken from the minimum number of packages specified in Table 2, randomly selected from the batch, and the primary samples shall be sufficient to be divided into units; each Member State may increase the volume of primary samples as it deems necessary.
