On May 31, 2024, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it will test relevant imported foods under the Laboratory Accreditation for Analysis of Foods (LAAF) program, specifically for mycotoxins.

The FDA established the LAAF program to improve the accuracy and reliability of food testing by harmonizing standards and strengthening oversight of laboratories. Under the program, owners and consignees of imported foods are required to use LAAF-accredited laboratories for testing. From December 1, 2024, owners and consignees of imported food subject to the LAAF Scheme will be required to use LAAF-accredited laboratories for testing of imported food.
