On September 30, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 145 of 2024, announcing that with immediate effect, the import of South African dairy products that meet the relevant requirements is permitted.
Dairy products for export to China refer to food products originating from South Africa and processed with cow's milk as the main raw material, including milk powder, fermented milk, cream, thin cream, pasteurized milk, whey powder, cheese and reconstituted cheese.
Dairy producers exporting to China must be approved or registered by South African officials, under the supervision of South African officials and in compliance with the requirements of China and South Africa on animal health and public health.
According to the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China and the Administrative Provisions on the Registration of Overseas Producers of imported Foods of the People's Republic of China, dairy products exported to China should be registered by China, and products produced by unregistered enterprises are not allowed to be exported to China.
At the same time, the announcement also lists in detail the relevant requirements that need to be met for import, including inspection and approval requirements, certificate requirements, food safety requirements, packaging and labeling requirements.
