On October 24, 2024, the Japanese Consumer Agency announced that genetically modified corn DAS1131 passed the food safety review. The transgenic corn, developed by Codiwa, is resistant to lepidoptera and resistant to glyphosate by expressing Cry1Da2 protein derived from Bacillus thuringiensis and DGT-28 EPSPS protein derived from Streptomyces. The GM corn has been approved for food use in Australia and New Zealand, for food and feed use in the United States and Brazil, and for food, feed and commercial cultivation in Canada and Argentina.
