U.S. revised frozen juice standard

On November 8, 2024, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) revised the Frozen Fruit Juice Standard, effective the date of publication. Key revisions:

  

(1) Individually marketed small packages of apple juice are permitted to be made from fruit juice concentrate or pasteurized fruit juice;

  

(2) If vitamin C is added for fortification, the content is ≥ 30mg/100ml, and the label must state that the juice is fortified with added vitamin C; the sugar level of the juice is ≥ 11°Brix;

  

(3) Shelf life: not more than 6 months if kept frozen at zero or lower temperatures and 10 days after thawing.
