According to the South African Independent media website reported on October 25, the South African Poultry Association (SAPA) is urgently calling for the abolition of the 15% value-added tax levied on certain chicken products, and the exemption application is expected to be formally submitted in mid-November.
Breitenbach, head of SAPA, said that the implementation of zero VAT on chicken products is a top priority, not only to maintain the country's food supply, but also to enhance the economic well-being of families. The initiative will improve the availability of poultry products and directly address the growing food insecurity faced by many South Africans. Earlier, President Ramaphosa promised to expand the list of foods exempt from VAT.
